INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC GRAND PRIX (ICGP)
Following the end of the 2016 season event in Brazil, the ICGP is organising itself for the new season with the goal of dazzling everyone at the 2017 championship circuits. This is especially so for Donington Park during the Endurance Legends weekend, this mythical circuit where numerous Grand Prix races took place.
Created in 1999, today, the ICGP is regarded as the MotoGP of vintage machines. This series is comprised of Grand Prix riders on period machines and are propelled by the spirit of ‘70s and ‘80s racing.
Two ICGP classes – 250cc and 350cc – compete simultaneously; however, they are scored separately.
Many renowned riders, as well as ex-World Champions like Phil Read, Charlie Williams, and others have competed in ICGP events. Many stars from this era will be present at this event; notably, Ian Simpson, two-time winner of the TT and Superbike Champion; Bernard Fau, Peter Howarth, André Gouin, Jean Paul Lecointe, and many others, all former Grand Prix riders.
The motorcycles on display are also glittering examples of their time – BSR, Exactweld, Chevallier, Kawasaki KR’s and Yamaha TZ’s. Don’t forget to visit the riders’ pit boxes in order to admire the fabulous machines on display.
The laptimes for these riders on these machines are on a par with those of the era, should proof be required of the high level of performance in ICGP.
At the 2016 premier event, reigning Moto2 World Champion, Johann Zarko, took the start of the ICGP race to the great delight of the spectators.
Have a wonderful time during this fantastic weekend at Donington Park in the company of our ICGP series!
